|CHARITY & INDUSTRY WORK
Roy is a great believer in giving back to the industry that has given him such a successful career and volunteers his time to organisations that assist actors and the film and television industry.
For many years he was on the Management Committee Actors Benevolent Fund of NSW Inc, an organisation which provides assistance to professional performers, both young and old, who, due to injury or illness are unable to work, either temporarily or in some cases for the rest of their lives. During his time as treasurer of the Fund he instigated and coordinated the design of a website that makes it easier to donate and easier to apply for assistance. He also instigated financial reforms that enable the Fund to carry out its business more efficiently.
He was a National Performers Committee member of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, the organisation representing performers’ interests in Australia and New Zealand for many years until he became disillusioned with union politics and practices and resigned in 2014.
He is an Ambassador and spokesperson for the Australian Screen Association and has written articles , filmed a commercial and done publicity appearances highlighting the threat of piracy and copyright theft to the film and television industries.
He is the presenter for AFACT’S anti-cam-cording instructional DVD, MAKE A DIFFERENCE. In 2010 he was presented with the Motion Picture Association Asia-Pacific Copyright Educator Award for the work he does in making the public and industry aware of movie and copyright theft.
